ABC to compensate$ 15 million to settle a Trump slander lawsuit

The lawsuit’s conclusion is a remarkable win for Donald J. Trump in his continued legal battles with major media outlets. Donald J. Trump filed a defamation complaint for$ 15 million from ABC News. A big news organization’s acceptance of the deal was a major concession, and it was a rare triumph for a media-bashing politician whose previous legal battles have frequently ended in vain. Under the terms of a lawsuit revealed on Saturday, ABC News did volunteer the$ 15 million to Mr. Trump’s potential political base and museum. The community and its star outlet, George Stephanopoulos, even published a statement saying they “regret” remarks made about Mr. Trump during a televised meeting in March. ABC News, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company, will pay Mr. Trump an additional$ 1 million for his legal fees. The result is a rare win for Mr. Trump, who has generally lost in defamation lawsuits against news organizations, including those involving CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. Given the high bar for a common figure like Mr. Trump to show slander, many experts in internet laws said they thought ABC News may have continued to fight. A complainant must not only demonstrate that a news channel published false information, but also that it did but knowing that the data was false or that it had strong doubts about its accuracy. According to RonNell Andersen Jones, a doctor of law at the University of Utah, “major news organizations have frequently been very wary of communities in defamation suit brought by public authorities and public figures because they fear the dangerous style of doing so and because they have the entire weight of the First Amendment on their side.” We are having trouble retrieving the article’s content.
