Donald J. Trump’s continuing legal battle against regional news organizations comes in an unconventional way with the outcome of the lawsuit. ABC News agreed on Saturday to provide$ 15 million to President-elect Donald J. Trump’s coming political foundation and museum to negotiate a defamation lawsuit filed by Mr. Trump concerning on-air claims made by the show’s star anchor George Stephanopoulos. Additionally, the system and Mr. Stephanopoulos issued a statement in which they “regret” comment made about Mr. Trump during a televised meeting in March. According to a settlement agreement that was filed in Federal District Court in Miami, ABC News, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company, will pay Mr. Trump an additional$ 1 million for his legal fees. The results represents an unexpected defeat for Mr. Trump in his continuing legal battles with major news outlets. In addition to filing claims against CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, he had other unsuccessful attempt to sue press outlets for libel. Given the high legal bar, it is extremely hard for common characters like Mr. Trump to sue a media channel for defamation because they must demonstrate both that the shop lied and that it did thus with malicious intent.
