President-elect Trump appears to have helped Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., prevent a noisy, drawn-out struggle to lead the House of Representatives. Trump spoke by phone with both Reps. Ralph Norman, R-S. C., and Keith Self, R-Texas, after they had originally voted for citizens other than Johnson for speech, two experienced sources told Fox News Digital. After the slide call ballot was over, but before the vote was officially closed, Self and Norman were seen disappearing into a side chamber with Johnson and others. They made their announcement minutes after that they would both vote for Johnson, confirming the success of the Louisiana Republican. Johnson subsequently confirmed to reporters that he had spoken with Trump over the phone more than once on Friday. He later admitted to having spoken with him to stop his’dishonest ‘ status. ” I talked to him a couple of times today”, Self said. ” We had a lively discussion” .Self did not elaborate much further on the contents of the discussion. However, the two persons who spoke with Fox News Digital claimed that Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S. C., had phoned Trump to ask him about Self and Norman after they voted against Johnson. Despite the fact that she and Johnson were seen on Fox News Digital’s ground after they and others were with the holdouts, democrats have provided information from closed-door meeting discussions with Doge’s muse. She was even spotted engaging in heated exchanges with Norman earlier off the House floor. Eventually, Norman also confirmed to reporters that he spoke with Trump on Friday. In the first round of voting, Johnson, who had first appeared to be in trouble, was elected speaker. Self, Norman and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., each voted for citizens other than Johnson, appearing to place the author’s hand out of reach. House leaders did not formally close the vote while figuring out a course to take. In order to prepare for a second ballot, GOP politicians were immediately informed that they were standing on the House floor. That second ballot did not occur, yet, and Johnson was sworn in as speech on Friday evening.
