An “extraordinary man”: Former President Carter is laying in the Capitol back of a position death.

The body of former president Jimmy Carter was transported to the District of Columbia on Tuesday evening, where it will be buried before a express death on Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral in the city. Carter died Sunday, Dec. 29, at 100 years old. His death occurred less than a month after Rosalynn Carter, his wife of 77 years, passed away. Carter’s royal appearance at the U. S. Capitol Rotunda came after the start of six weeks of funeral rites that began Saturday night in the 39th president’s home of Grasslands, Georgia. Carter’s tomb was greeted at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington, D. C., on Tuesday by the U. S. Air Force Band playing” Abide with Me”. From Andrews, a coffin took Carter’s urn to the U. S. Navy Memorial for a quick service. Carter, a Naval Academy graduate, served as a submersible commander before leaving the Navy to get over his mother’s land. At the Navy Memorial, the tomb was transferred to a horse-drawn shaft for a march up Pennsylvania Avenue to the U. S. Capitol. At the Capitol’s lying-in-state service, Vice President Harris delivered a speech and was joined by subsequent person Doug Emhoff in presenting a memorial crown on behalf of the executive branch of the government. The U. S. Capitol meeting on Tuesday featured notes from both House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S. D., representing their particular houses of Congress.
