​Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Donates$ 1 Million to Trump’s Inaugural Fund

Meta said on Wednesday that it had donated$ 1 million to President-elect Donald J. Trump’s annual bank, in the latest move by Mark Zuckerberg, the bank’s main executive, to develop a good rapport with Mr. Trump. The Silicon Valley business did not give specifics about the donation’s motivations, but it did so after Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump met at Mar-a-Lago. The two men exchanged greetings at that meeting next month, and Mr. Zuckerberg praised Mr. Trump for taking the president. Mr. Zuckerberg even had a dinner with Marco Rubio, Mr. Trump’s pull for Secretary of State, according to a person who saw the gathering occur. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Mr. Zuckerberg was “grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for meal.” Gifts to annual commissions, which do not have commitment limits, are popular among businesses and individuals willing to curry favour with an incoming management. Mr. Trump’s annual commission is offering top-tier benefits to contributors who contribute$ 1 million. One of the many software chief executives who has established close relationships with Mr. Trump is Mr. Zuckerberg. Even before next month’s election, Mr. Zuckerberg, Apple’s Tim Cook and Google’s Sundar Pichai started reaching out to Mr. Trump, often flattering him and criticizing his criticism, as they aimed to place themselves in a position that may potentially benefit their businesses. Mr. Trump recently had a strained marriage with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. He had claimed that the firm restricted him and another conservative voices on its apps. After the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol, Meta had blocked Mr. Trump on its channels, though his records have since been reinstated. Mr. Trump had even physically criticized Mr. Zuckerberg, when saying that the professional should be jailed in retribution for “plotting against” him during the 2020 election. But over the summer, Mr. Zuckerberg had at least two personal telephone calls with Mr. Trump. In one contact, Mr. Zuckerberg wished Mr. Trump also and said he was “praying” for him after an execution try this summer at a rally in Butler, Penn. Mr. Zuckerberg claimed in a later discussion that Mr. Trump appeared to be a “badass” after being shot at the march and slinging his fist at the audience. In a letter to Congress in August, Mr. Zuckerberg officially expressed regret for some of his earlier political activities. He said that in 2021, the Biden presidency “pressured” Meta into censoring more Covid-19 information than he felt comfortable with.
