Intermountain Health has chosen a well-known experience as its new chief modern and knowledge officer following what it called an “extensive global search.” IT MATTERSRyan Smith will take over as CDIO as soon as 2025 after serving a distinct, more new stint as chief knowledge officer there for almost 20 years. Smith now serves as interim president and chief executive officer at Graphite Health, a volunteer joint of health systems, including Intermountain, working toward a” frequent online language” for medical information across the information ecosystem. Smith began his career at Intermountain in the middle of the 1990s, working in various information, system, and tech jobs for almost 20 years before resigning to lead the Phoenix-based Banner Health CIO position in 2013. After five years it, he returned to Intermountain as CIO during the pandemic and served as a top VP and assistant at the analytics firm Health Catalyst. He has worked for Graphite Health for the past three decades. As the new CDIO at Intermountain, Ryan did report chief strategy officer Dan Liljenquist, the health system said, and may serve as a member of the Business Leadership Team. Smith may lead Intermountain’s Digital Technology Services, including DTS Operations, Digital Services, Data Services, Clinical Informatics, Information Security, and Information Technology, with leaders of each group will reporting straight to him. THE LARGER TRENDFor his second go-round as Intermountain CIO, starting in 2020, Smith had taken over for the health state’s lifelong IT head, Marc Probst. Two years later, as Intermountain completed its mega-merger with Colorado-based SCL Health, that position was expanded to CDIO and filled by SCL’s Craig Richardville. Richardville left Intermountain this past July after earlier this year sharing some insight about evaluating and choosing IT sellers. ON THE RECORD” This option is greatly significant to me”, said Smith, in a speech, about his new position. ” I’m excited for the opportunity to make medical an easier, safer practice for individuals, members and carers alike”. ” I’m convinced that Ryan is the right person to guide Intermountain as a unit health system through the complicated world of care that lies ahead,” said Intermountain Health president and CEO Rob Allen. ” He will lead DTS to support our mission, vision, and strategy to simplify, expand proactive care, and improve the healthcare experience for our caregivers, patients, members, and communities “.Mike Miliard is executive editor of Healthcare IT NewsEmail the writer: mike. miliard@himssmedia.com Healthcare IT News is a HIMSS publication.
