Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-N. J., called out New York as it prepares to adopt a provocative new congestion charges tax for travellers on Saturday. Sherrill contends that the congestion pricing plan is merely a “tentative financing test” to “fund the]Metro Transportation Authority ] on the flanks of New Jersey travellers.” As riders make their way to more affordable pathways into New York, Sherrill wrote,” This new revenue will increase costs for New Jerseyans, worsening customers, and increasing pollutants in New Jersey.” I’m not at ease with my seat because New York uses the labor of New Jersey as a meal for the MTA, she continued. The congestion taxes became effective on Sunday despite attempts by New Jersey officers, who sued to stop the application on the grounds that New York had not thoroughly investigated climate effects. Janno Lieber, the MTA head, applauded the decision and highlighted the potential advantages of gridlock pricing. At a press conference, Lieber stated,” We’ve been studying this topic for five decades, but it only takes about five minutes if you’re in midtown Manhattan to realize that New York has a real traffic problem.” There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this plan, and many people are concerned about the effects of gridlock pricing. Congestion pricing is expected to bring in billions in profits to upgrade New York’s transit system, but it has drawn criticism from commuters and New Jersey officials who claim it places an unfair problem on people coming in from outside of New York. Some commuters could be subject to daily costs of up to$ 22 that would include the Port Authority crossings ‘ existing tolls.
